Surroundings

If you love nature and peacefull surroundings the Rietbroek is a perfect choice. There are several walking and biking routes, varying from 10 to 25 km (6 to 15 miles). These routes take you through the "polder" with the characteristic "stolp" farms and little canals, by the shores of the IJsselmeer and through beautifull villages.

If the winters are cold enough there are several ice skating routes available, which start at your front door! Also worth mentioning is to look at or even join in the historic ice sail boats on the IJsselmeer.

Very close to the Rietbroek cottage are the villages Marken, Volendam, Edam and Broek in Waterland. There is a lot to see and do like visiting de Zaanse Schans, Nemo, the cheese market in Edam and Alkmaar, visit Anton Heyboer and many more museums.

Most amazingly, Amsterdam is only 15 minutes away with public transportation. There you can find more museums, restaurants, bars, clubs, the zoo Artis, walk along the canals or through the Jordaan. Not a moment to get bored!
